Brooklyn’s Best Spots to Clear Your Head

Treatment can be exhausting, both mentally and physically. Sometimes, what helps most isn’t another appointment or more information. Instead, it’s stepping outside, taking a breath, and giving your mind a break. At TBCC, we believe care goes beyond your visits, so we’ve gathered some of our favorite Brooklyn spots to help you reset.

Prospect Park is a great place to start. It’s easy to reach, and if you wander off the main paths, you’ll find peaceful spots to rest, surrounded by trees. It’s perfect for a slow walk with no set plan. The Brooklyn Botanic Garden is another favorite, especially when the weather is nice and the flowers are in bloom. If you prefer a flat, open path, the Brooklyn Waterfront Greenway has easy walking trails with beautiful water views. Looking out over the water can help put your thoughts in perspective. Fort Greene Park is smaller and feels like a true neighborhood park. It’s close to TBCC, so it’s an easy stop before or after an appointment. The benches there are perfect if you just want to sit and watch the world go by. If being outside feels overwhelming, the Brooklyn Public Library is a great indoor option. It’s quiet, cool, and has plenty of places to sit with a book or just relax.

A few simple steps can make these outings easier. Going out early usually means fewer people and cooler weather, which can make a big difference when your energy is low. Bring some water and don’t feel like you have to stay out for long. Try planning for a twenty-minute walk and see how you feel. If you have more energy, you can stay longer. If not, you still made it outside, and that matters. Many of our patients tell us that balancing treatment, rest, and a short outing helps make the week feel more manageable.

As far as what to bring, comfortable shoes make the biggest difference. A light snack helps too, especially if your energy tends to dip. And if you want company, bring a friend. Sometimes it's nice to have someone next to you, even if you're not talking much.

We often remind our patients that a short trip outside really does count. Even twenty minutes in the park is time you gave to yourself. At TBCC, we believe healing isn’t just what happens during treatment. It’s also about letting yourself step away, even for a little while, and remembering what a normal Brooklyn afternoon feels like.

If you have questions about managing your energy during treatment or want to talk about what a good day out could look like for you, just ask your care team at your next visit. We’re here to support you, both inside the clinic and beyond.
