Low-Energy Ways to Enjoy Your Halloween

Halloween doesn't have to be exhausting to be amazing. If you're going through treatment and feeling like your usual October traditions might be too much this year, you're not alone. Many of our patients wonder how they can still enjoy the holiday when their energy levels are lower these days.

Here's the thing: some of the best Halloween memories happen when we slow down and get creative.

Turn yourself into the neighborhood's favorite candy-giver. Set up a cozy chair by your front door, and you’ll become part of the magic without all the walking. Kids love it when someone takes the time to compliment their costumes and really engage with them.

You can still dress up too. Focus on what's comfortable, maybe a fun hat, some dramatic makeup, or a cozy costume that works while sitting. A witch's cape over your favorite soft sweater, vampire fangs with your regular clothes, or even cat ears with drawn-on whiskers can make you feel festive without any fuss.

Forget the struggle of carving. Painting pumpkins lets you create something beautiful while sitting comfortably at your kitchen table. You can make designs that would be impossible to carve: think sunset scenes or your favorite flowers.

If you're watching your sugar intake, try dark chocolate or stock up on naturally sweet options like dates or dried fruit. You're still getting that Halloween indulgence, just in a way that feels better.

Maybe this year looks different. Maybe instead of a big party, it's you and your family having a Halloween movie marathon with all the cozy blankets. Maybe it's a video call costume contest with relatives who live far away. Maybe it's decorating just one room in your house instead of the whole place.

Different doesn't mean less special. Sometimes the smaller, quieter celebrations end up being the ones we remember most.

This Halloween, give yourself permission to enjoy the holiday exactly as your energy allows. There's no right or wrong way to celebrate, there's just your way.
