Stress Awareness Month: Reducing Stress During Cancer Treatment

Coping with cancer treatment alongside the challenges of daily life can be overwhelmingly stressful. It is important to take time to prioritize self-care and actively seek out stress-reducing activities during this challenging time.

April is Stress Awareness Month, highlighting the importance of managing stress throughout the year. This month, make a conscious effort to prioritize your mental well-being and take proactive measures to reduce stress in your daily life.

During cancer treatment, there are various ways to alleviate stress:

  • Engage in regular exercise:

    • This can be things as simple as practicing yoga or walking.

  • Get plenty of sleep:

    •  Getting 7 to 9 hours of sleep each night can  boost your mood and help reduce stress.

  • Learn mindfulness techniques:

    • Practices such as meditation can help promote inner calmness.

  • Seek Support:

    •  Talk to a family member or a friend.

  • Join a support group:

    • A support group can offer space to discuss cancer-related issues with others who can truly understand.

  • Keep your body healthy:

    • Focus on eating a nutritious diet and avoiding alcohol, drugs, and tobacco.

  • Do things you enjoy:

    • While cancer treatment may be draining, it is still important to fill your life with things that bring you joy!
